READ: Kendrick Lamar cuts off from music |
Kendrick Lamar doesn’t want his own tracks to be too heavily influenced by things he hears, so tries to isolate himself in order to ‘organically’ work without feeling restricted by ‘industry standards’.
He said: ’When I go into creating an album or any type of song, I usually cut off everything from the radio because you can easily be influenced from songs that you like, songs that you may not like.’
So I said, ‘I’m gonna go in the studio and I’m going to do what I feel organically without being confined to industry standards or what people assume that I should do.’ Because, at the end of the day, man, I’m an artist and I would hate to be stagnant.’
Kendrick, 27, released ‘i’ earlier this week – his first new music since 2012 debut album ‘good kid, m.A.A.d. City’ – and is hoping his second album will follow very soon.
Speaking to Carson Daly on 97.1 AMP Radio, he said: ‘I’m hoping to push it out before 2015. I’m gonna say that. I’m working hard in the studio.’
