“Being Dope Won’t Pay My Bills” – Reminisce
In an exclusive interview with Pulse, indigenous rapperReminisce has
spoken about the reality rappers face in being creative as opposed to
them acknowledging the financial responsibility they have to take.
According to him, creative rappers in Nigeria are not appreciated. "Being dope doesn't cut it here man. Being dope doesn't cut it"
he emphasized. Reminisce said that he would sacrifice being dope in
order to become a successful rap artist. According to him, being dope
and not successful is not practical.
"You
can't pay your bills, you cant drive...I have two kids. I know what it
is like to pay school fees to send a kid to a proper school. Being dope
is not going to pay my kid's school fees. Being dope isn't going to
shoot videos for me" he stated.
Reminisce
also mentioned that rappers are forced to be profit oriented because
the industry structure doesn't necessarily support being creative.
